Outdoor sports in Tuscany: Rockonda's commitment to the Lima River
Experiencing outdoor sports in Tuscany doesn’t just mean adrenaline, but entering into a deep relationship with the land. For many, the river is just a place to observe or photograph; for us at Rockonda, the Lima River is home, challenge, and identity.
The beating heart of Rockonda: between Bagni di Lucca and the Garfagnana
Located in the beautiful setting of Val di Lima, among the mountains surrounding Bagni di Lucca, our sporting venture is not a simple activity center, but a living community. Rockonda was born from the energy of white water and the deep bond built over time by guides, staff, athletes, and friends who feel this place as their own.
Every one of our sporting activities carries this authentic spirit:
- Rafting and Kayak: to experience the power of the Lima River.
- Canyoning and River Trekking: to explore the valley’s most hidden corners.
Sustainability and respect: taking care of the river
There is a fundamental moment that precedes every descent and every adventure: returning to the river to take care of it. Every season begins with the involvement of the entire Rockonda staff in cleaning the waters.
Winter often leaves clear signs, bringing with it logs and natural debris that testify to the power of the Lima. Unfortunately, however, we also find traces of human impact, such as plastic and waste. Collecting this refuse is not just technical preparation, but a concrete act of respect toward the land that hosts us. Because for us, experiencing the river means protecting it.
A voice for the territory: beyond sport
Rockonda has become over time a reference point and a voice for the defense of nature in Tuscany. We have faced real battles, such as petition drives and awareness campaigns, to prevent stretches of the Lima from being transformed by concrete and exploitation.
In those moments, our community made of guides, staff, and customers who became friends united to defend a common good. These victories go beyond sporting achievements: they are victories for the community and for the river itself.
What the Lima River teaches us
Every day, the river teaches us to read the water, to trust the group, and to respect nature’s timing. It is not just the technique of kayaking or the thrill of rafting that binds us to this place, but a relationship built on responsibility and belonging.
Every time we enter the water in Bagni di Lucca, we do so as a team and as a family. The river gives much to those who visit it; it is up to us to choose to learn how to give back.
